When the Emmy winnerannounced his departure from the showas of August 2018, this meant that the sitcom's 12th season would be its last. Once he made his decision, Molaro and co-creatorChuck Lorreheld a cast meeting where Parsons was allowed to tell everyone that he had decided to leave before revealing that his departure would also beend the showafter 12 seasons.
“There was a lot of crying in the room. Kaley in particular," recalled Lorre, 69, in the book. "It was a blow. And there was no way to soften it by letting them know. I didn't know any other way to do it."
At that time, several cast membersshared their thoughts publiclyabout the end of the show. Cuoco, 36, said his heart was "broken in two" by the news. “This trip was a dream come true and life changing,” he wrote via Instagram in August 2018. “Drowning in tears, we promise to bring you the best season yet.”

Despite her feelings, however, Galecki admitted that she didn't think the show could go on without Parsons. “None of us, the actors, the writers, are comfortable doing the show without one of us,” he explained. "And we absolutely would not continue without Jim."
